The Tanzania Geological Society (TGS) is a non-profit organisation of geoscientists in Tanzania. The Society's members include geoscientists in Earth resources exploration and extraction industries, academia, government institutions, and all persons interested in geosciences by profession.

Our activities encompass Earth resources management, providing a forum for discussions, government empowerment, and Earth process awareness.

Importantly, the Journal of the Mines and Geosciences (formerly the Journal of the Geological Society of Tanzania, JGST), the sole earth sciences journal in East and Central Africa, is one of the avenues for TGS to meet its objectives.

What We Do

Earth Resources Management

Promoting the development of mineral, oil and gas, and water resources in Tanzania

Forum for Discussion

Providing a forum for discussion and dissemination of information and co-operation

Government Empowerment

TGS assists the government of Tanzania and its institutions in the acquisition and training of specialized personnel to meet the Nation’s manpower requirements.

Earth Process Awareness

TGS also promotes the awareness and understanding of the earth and earth processes to the public.
